Look at this guy, he made a LITTLE money during the supersoft era of SNGs (03-05). Basically anyone who had an average knowledge of poker made money here. People would be absolute retards by check calling all ins with AJ for like 20BB. So Jon tries to translate his averageness to the WPT. On his 1st attempt he final tabled (got absolutely crushed and got 6th). He used the money to keep playing WPT events and on like his 4th attempt he final tabled again after going on the luckiest streak of all time (he was down to 6BB at one point and contemplated giving up: http://www.sngicons.com/geeklog/blogs//article.php?story=20070519214342491). The number of 2 and 3 outers all in preflop was just ridiculous (trust me I was there).
So after being given luck gifts from the Gods, winning the Mirage WPT for ~$1M, and a few months later being given such a sweet deal with FullTilt whereby he was paid $30 per hour AND 100% rakeback, what does he do?
He throws it all away.
It all went down at the NBC heads up event. For months there were rumors that Jon had other people playing under his account. He denied it publicly on 2+2:

The hate from the poker community is obvious. This just proved the morals of this guy. Not only does he screw his employer who gave him such a ridiculously good deal, he lies about it! Most intelligent people, if they are going to go down this unethical route, will lay low for a while and let the rumors pass. But not "smart" Jon - he actually has people INCREASE his volume AND play while he is being televised at the NBC heads up show!!!! This is about as dumb as you can get. The guy threw away at least a million dollars guaranteed per year from FTP by simply being greedy.
So why did he do it? Is he really and truly this dumb?

Another reason is that Jon was trying to squeeze as much as possible out of FTP before he was let go. After all, he is hardly a draw on TV. He has zero personality and negative TV presence - a must in modern day successful poker players (at least the ones who want to benefit from sponsorship). The guy is so boring to watch I find myself wanting to pull my teeth out just for some kind of entertainment.
If you watch the NBC heads up tourney, the people Jon plays clearly have zero respect for him. The normally jovial Gabe Kaplan and verbal Greg Raymer say NOTHING. They want to beat this moron. Just watch the games, especially Raymer, the hate is obvious. NBC gave him the absolute minimum TV time possible because he is so painfully boring to watch. So Chris Ferguson, a FTP pro who at this time knows very well Jon has been taking advantage of his status at FullTilt and likely jepardising his own status, beats his ass after getting his chips in good every time, prompting this utterly unforgivable post from a guy who got outplayed and knows it:
